Master

Master Leāo Teixeira is a coral belt 7th degree. His Jiu-Jitsu training started at the famous Gracie Academy in Copacabana, with Grand Master Rolls Gracie who in the 1970s won the title of champion of the Gracie family, becoming the idol of a generation.

Rolls revolutionized the style of fighting, giving more agility and dynamics in the fight, a consequence of his desire to win, self-confidence and a diversification of techniques that made the sport grow a lot. He was undoubtedly a leader not only for Jiu Jitsu but for a whole generation.

“Rolls Gracie represented a lot for all of us, his importance within the growth of Jiu-Jitsu is undeniable, what most impressed me about his learning, was his discipline and determination, values that I keep until today and place as the mission of my school, which is :

“To  Educate and instill with Determination, Respect and Discipline – Leão Teixeira “

When Leão Teixeira entered the academy, Rolls introduced him to Carlos Gracie Jr. (Carlinhos) to pass on his first teachings. Carlinhos later became his teacher, and together, the two would come to work on major projects in favor of the growth of Jiu-Jitsu as a sport, among them, the foundation of the Brazilian Confederation and the International Jiu-Jitsu Federation.

When Rolls passed away in 1982, Carlinhos took over the Copacabana academy, a decision made during a meeting held with all the students, and Rolls’ wife, Angela Gracie.

In 1984, together with his brothers, Crolin and Rillion, Carlinhos set out on a new project, taking Jiu-Jitsu to Barra da Tijuca, a new neighborhood that was beginning to grow in Rio de Janeiro. And it was in the early years of the Gracie Barra Academy that Leão Teixeira, together with Crolin Gracie, began to teach in one of the children’s classes in the morning.

In 1986, the teacher would receive his black belt from Carlos Gracie Jr., and with the growth of Gracie Barra his work increased, to format an exclusive method for child training, Leāo Teixeira started to innovate in the formatting of his classes with the acquired knowledge from using academic training in physical education, at that time he had, under his responsibility, a group of more than 100 children.

Great names were revealed their class returns and joined the front line of the Gracie Barra competition team, highlighting among them:

Hélio Moreira (nap), Ralph Gracie, Marcio Feitosa, Rafael Correia “Gordinho”, Flávio Almeida “Cachorrinho”, Rolles Gracie Jr., Igor Gracie and Marco Joca “Piu-Piu to name a few.

It was in 1992 when our Master received an unusual invitation to teach at the Dalal Achcar Ballet School. A new journey of success began, our Master practically fell from the sports organizations of jiu-jitsu, and started to organize the first jiu-jitsu school, with a time table formatted from 03 years old to adult black belt.

Today the Leāo Teixeira Jiu-Jitsu School is located, with its main headquarters in Gávea at the Dalal Achcar Art and Culture Center, where the Master teaching there classes with his son Felipe Leāo Teixeira, and has branches in Leblon, Barra – Clube Náutico Mandala and the Bodytech Academy.
